Here at Speed of Sight, our mission is simple – change lives! We are very lucky to be able to do this through our Driving Day experiences that are held across the UK at some of the most respected and well-known race tracks possible. After all, the opportunity to drive is something that many of our racer’s would never get to experience without us which is why we take our role incredibly seriously. Read on as we explain why our Driving Days help change lives for the better…
Driving is often considered a right of passage for many adults, however there are many conditions that can prevent a person from being able to get their hands on a valid driving licence. As such, this can lead to feelings of isolation that can progress well into adulthood. The man behind the Speed of Sight mission, Mike Newman, never let his blindness stand in his way and went on to become the fastest blind man on land and water in the world!
A driving experience like the ones we offer allows those with a sight impairment or physical/mental disability to experience the thrill of speeding around a racetrack in situations where they may never be able to have a licence of their own. It instills a sense of independence as each racer is given full control of the adapted vehicles and this experience really can change lives for the better. Just imagine being told that you’ll never be able to drive and then being given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to feel the wind in your hair on a real-life race course – now that’s certainly going to change and save lives.
One of a Kind
There’s a lot to be done in the fight for disabled rights and driving may very well be possible thanks to the self-driving technology developed by TESLA. With this said, it’s safe to assume that it’ll be a good few years until this becomes mainstream. Driving Days with Speed of Sight are a one-of-a-kind experience which means that there is nobody quite like us on the market. At reduced prices, our specialised and adapted buggies are designed with sight impairments and disabilities in mind in order to give those who would otherwise be told ‘no’ a chance to be told ‘yes’! In fact, we firmly believe that a disability never means an inability.
A Speed of Sight Driving Day is an experience like no other and our adapted race cars and buggies allow blind and diabled people of all ages to experience what it feels like to sit behind the steering wheel and be in full control of a car! Safety is of the utmost importance which is why every racer is accompanied by a trained instructor and member of the team during the drive.
