Speed of Sight Hits The Headlines At Silverstone

Last week Speed of Sight achieved an incredible milestone in our mission to change the lives of blind and disabled people who have been told they’ll never drive with our high-speed driving experiences. Speed of Sight have spent a decade changing lives and, in that time, we’ve gone from racing around off-road carparks to having three sister racetracks across the North of England! Now we’ve surpassed ourselves yet again by hosting our grand finale event of the season at the official home of British motorsports, the world-famous Silverstone Circuit!

We had a fantastic day at Silverstone and hope to be invited back to repeat our grand finale next year! To imagine us racing around Silverstone was near impossible ten years ago as we fought to hold our events anywhere we could. So we could not be prouder to announce how much of a success our day at Silverstone was.

Speed of Sight hit the headlines across several major media outlets for hosting our grand finale event at the Mecca of motorsports. Many local and national news sites featured stories about Speed of Sight following or in the run up to the event! ITV News featured us on their website and ran a video report including an interview with our very own Mike Newman, founder of Speed of Sight and fasted blind man on the planet. The ITV piece also included short interviews with several of our drivers and our guest of honour, Nicholas Hamilton! Nick, who has cerebral palsy, is the younger brother of world-famous Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton and in 2015 became the first disabled driver to compete in the British Touring Car Championships.

BBC News also did a feature on Speed of Sight’s event on their TV news segment with driver interviews and a brief history of the charity from our wonderful John Galloway, the co-founder and resident cameraman for our events which can be viewed on the Speed of Sight YouTube page!

Several local news outlets also covered Speed of Sight’s historic event, including both Buckinghamshire Live and Buck’s Radio for Buckinghamshire and Northants Live for Northamptonshire! Speed of Sight has really begun to make headlines with our incredible progress and hope to continue smashing our records and achieving headlines as we head toward our 10th anniversary next year.
