5K Challenge

David McGinnity runs 5k every day in 2021 to raise money for us and you can join him!
A Kingswinford-based Operations Director is running 5k (3.1 miles) every single day of 2021 in an attempt to raise £50,000 for us, and is now looking for people to join him in May to run 5k with him. David McGinnity, operations director at Image4Security, began his challenge on 1st January 2021 and will finish on 31st December 2021. During this period, he has committed to run/jog/walk 5k every single day and cover a total of 1,825k (1,131.5 miles), in an attempt to raise £50k. David first heard about the charity in November 2020 through a mutual friend and was so inspired by the story, he decided he had to help in some way. David said: “I’d been looking for a challenge to do next year, but I wanted to have something behind it to drive me to succeed and I thought raising money for a charity would be the perfect solution, especially as 2020 has been such a difficult year for so many charities. “I heard about Speed Of Sight through a friend who’s close with John, the co-founder, and their story was just so amazing that I had to help them. I know that £50,000 is an ambitious target and I’m not even sure if I’ll raise anywhere close to that, but I’m determined, and I know that any money I raise will be appreciated by John and Mike. “They’re a small charity, but even just watching the videos on their YouTube page, you can tell they really make a difference to people’s lives and Mike just puts everyone to shame with his World Records! Obviously 2020 has put a huge dent into the donations they’ve received, but I’m hoping that the money I raise throughout 2021 will help them, which will in turn give so many people with disabilities a life changing experience.”

“We were thrilled when we got the call from David. He’s got a heart of gold and is very determined, so I have no doubt that he’ll be able to complete this very difficult challenge! I’ve also told him that I’ll run with him a few times, which will be an interesting experience for me, but I’m sure David will help coach me through it!

“We rely on the generous donations people give us and £50,000 would be a game changer for us; we’ll be able to help a lot more disabled people and potentially get more vehicles built, so we’re very grateful and humbled that David has picked us to be his charity.

“Now, it’s time for others to get involved, you can run, walk, cycle, dance 5k every single day in May – the challenge is completely up to you! Get involved, and let’s help make the impossible, possible.”
